From $750,000 to $1 million, you get into newer builds above 3,250 square feet. Above $1 million, you're in luxury territory with larger homes and lots.

Understanding Wake County Schools

Schools in Apex North Carolina are generally strong. Apex High School consistently tests well with solid graduation rates. But assuming every school in Apex is the same is where a lot of buyers make a mistake.

Before you make an offer on any home, look up the assigned school for that specific address on the WCPSS website. Don't assume; look it up. Some schools are at capacity, which means your child could be assigned to an overflow school that may not be what you had in mind.

Your assigned school also isn't your only option. There are magnet schools, charter schools, and other programs worth exploring depending on what's best for your child.

Commute

Apex sits in a pretty convenient spot. You're not paying the Cary premium, but you still have easy access to downtown Raleigh. Highway 540 is a toll road that connects the area well; getting a toll pass upfront will save you money over time.

Traffic in Apex is relative. People coming from bigger cities are usually pleasantly surprised. Those coming from more rural areas sometimes find it more than they expected. Keep that in mind when you're weighing whether the commute works for you.

Lifestyle & Events

What it's like to live in Apex NC day to day is one of the things people enjoy most about the town. There are walking trails and routes just minutes from most neighborhoods, plus a lively Downtown Apex with restaurants, boutique shops, and weekend farmers markets.

Salem Street is the main hub for going out. You'll find Mexican food, pizza, pubs, and wine bars like Peak of the Vine, which has live music. It's not a late-night scene; most places wind down around 11 PM, but it's a great way to spend a Saturday night. The median age in Apex is 36 and the median household income is $144,000, so the vibe matches that demographic well.

For families with kids, there are splash pads, skate parks, lakes, and community parks throughout the area. And Downtown Apex has a packed events calendar year-round, including a Christmas Parade, Halloween events, and food festivals. The downtown area is also currently undergoing a major renovation that will make it even better.

Future & Growth of Apex NC

Apex North Carolina has grown significantly over the years; from about 5,000 residents in 1990 to a current population of around 85,000. The town continues to grow at about 3.4% annually, and a lot of that momentum is tied to a massive new development called Veridea.

Veridea is an 11-acre mixed-use development with plans for 8,000 residential units, 3.5 million square feet of retail and dining, and 12 million square feet of commercial space. Phase 1 infrastructure is already underway. The full build-out is expected to take 10 to 12 years.

Within Veridea, North Carolina Children's Hospital announced plans for the state's first freestanding independent children's hospital, breaking ground in 2027 and bringing an estimated 8,000 jobs to the area. More jobs mean more people moving in, and more people moving in means more housing demand.

If you're buying in Apex today, you're getting ahead of that growth.
